Spyglass Hill Golf Course

Pro + Am Tournament

Spyglass Hill has been a tournament course since birth. It was built to host a dozen NCGA amateur championships annually, and one year after it opened, Spyglass Hill joined the Bing Crosby National Pro-Am rotation. Bing Crosby was so confident in the championship-caliber of Spyglass Hill that he bet none other than Jack Nicklaus that he wouldn’t break par in his first round there. (Nicklaus shot a 2-under 70, and has a framed $5 bill signed by Crosby to commemorate the occasion.) Spyglass Hill has always been considered a true championship test of golf. The course has hosted the U.S. Amateur twice, in 1999 and 2018. When Spyglass Hill hosted the 1999 U.S. Amateur, no player in the field was able to break 70, and the scoring average was just a shade under 80.

FAQs

Six to eight months in advance, if possible. A minimum of 4 months required.  We suggest getting started as soon as you have a destination or event in mind — we can help sort out the details. Event tickets, the best hotels, and reservations at popular restaurants always sell out or book up quickly when a high-profile event is in town.

Unlike the British Open or the US Open, the Masters does not feature an actual qualifying play-in tournament. In order to be invited by Augusta, players must fulfill 1 of 19 possible criteria, which include past championships at the Masters or a spot in the top 50 season-ending rankings. Exemptions are rarely given out, though they do occur. Approximately 90 to 100 players qualify for the tournament each year. Over each of the four days, the players must complete 18 holes, which add up to a 72-hole par. After the first two days, players must be in the top 50 or within 10 strokes of the lead to make the cut and continue playing. Anyone below this mark is eliminated. The player with the lowest score at the end of the event is the winner. In the event of a tie, the winner is determined by a sudden-death playoff on the 18th hole. If a second hole is needed, then they'll play on the 10th. The winner of the tournament receives the Masters trophy, a gold medal, and the iconic green jacket. The remaining players receive cash prizes.

The first major golf championship of the calendar year, the Masters always takes place in early April. The 2022 Masters will take place on April 4 through April 10. Get your tickets early to this once-in-a-lifetime event!

The Masters Tournament is held at the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.

The Masters schedule opens with a slate of pre-tournament events and practice sessions held the Monday and Wednesday before the tournament. These events generally feature a laid-back atmosphere, including a fun par-3 contest on Wednesday, and give you the opportunity to experience the ambiance and beauty of the course. They’re also the only days in which cameras are allowed on the course. Once the tournament officially begins on Thursday, the atmosphere becomes more serious. Attendees are expected to follow the usual golf etiquette with extreme precision, including absolute silence during strokes and shots. Attendees are given leeway to walk around the course or remain at a specific hole as they wish. But if you do choose to wander, bring some comfy shoes — from the first hole to Amen Corner to the famous grandstands, the Augusta National Golf Club stretches for more than 7,700 yards.

If you enjoy PGA Tour golf, then you can check out similar events around the area, including the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, FL, or the Tour Championship in Atlanta, GA. The Tour Championship has historically been one of the final events of the PGA season.
