This May, the Met Gala takes on Manhattan. That’s right. The Met Gala, the ultimate spring fete, has jumped across the calendar to shake things up. It’s rumored to been an even more intimate and exclusive than usual. (Thanks, COVID!) This year’s theme is American Independence. While fashion savvy consumers may be quick to visualize a respective honoring legends like; Bill Blass, Diane Von Furstenberg and Donna Karan, organizers were inspired by the recent renaissance of American fashion and how designers have responded to radical shifts in our culture. This year, the gala’s co-chairs bridge the gap between the newcomers and established fellows. The Met Costume Institute has invited Canadian hottie Timothée Chalamet, pop star Billie Eilish, tennis sensation Naomi Osaka and Amanda Gorman, one of the nation’s youngest and most accomplished poet laureates. They’ll be joined by Tom Ford, Anna Wintour and Instagram figurehead Adam Mosseri, who are powerful forces in their respective industries.
